Summertime means it’s time for a new do- hairdo that is! Once a year, I get an urge to chop my hair short. While I would love to go to a salon to get it done, sometimes I can't afford that. I have a seriously thick mane of hair, and haircuts can cost around $70 to $80- or more! And that’s not including the tip.
The most affordable option is to cut my hair at home. I don’t know about you, but I don’t trust myself to do that. My solution? Great Clips.

A haircut at Great Clips costs anywhere from $16 to $22. It’s an $8-$10 extra if you want to shampoo your hair before the cut.

Great Clips offers a promotional $2 off coupon if you sign up for their email marketing. In my opinion, this is a win-win for you, the customer.

Finding the Right Great Clips Location for You
Not all Great Clips are equal. Similarly, not all stylists are equal.
To find the right location for your needs, read Google reviews. Most Great Clips reviews are less than ideal because more customers are likely to comment if they have a complaint than if something went right- which is why I recommend Google reviews over Yelp. Yelp tends more towards the negative side.
Search Great Clips in your area on Google. See who is writing the reviews and what they are saying. The majority of reviews for Great Clips are written by men. I get excited when I see a lot of women reviewing a particular Great Clips location- especially if they provide pictures of their haircut. While everybody’s hair is different, knowing that women frequent a location means that the stylists aren’t just used to cutting men’s hair.
A final thought on locations: be okay with walking out of the salon if it doesn’t feel right. I have stepped into a Great Clips once, looked around, and then walked right out. There were two stylists, one an older man and one a woman, and every customer inside was a man. Plus, the lighting was terrible. I got a gut feeling that I should walk out, and I am so glad I did. I drove to another Great Clips location that had no wait time and an excellent stylist who did amazing with my hair.

Here are my three steps to success at getting a haircut at Great Clips:
Be polite to your stylists
Bring photos on your phone of what you would like
Tip well
Be polite to your stylist, and they will be more courteous to you. Kindness is so important in every regard. You may make their day- and in return, they may make yours even better with a cuter haircut.
Bring pictures to give them an idea of what you want. It’s best to bring a picture of the front and back of what you’d like. Be prepared for it to not look exactly like the picture. Every stylist is different, and (most likely) your face is not the one in the photo. Your hair type and face shape also affect the result.
Lastly, remember to tip well. I like to tip based on the time and care the stylist takes. I know that Great Clips stylists are pushed to move as quickly as possible by the corporation… and I have a ton of hair that slows them down. The longer they take on your hair is a gift.
Plus, if you become a regular customer at that salon, they will remember how much you tip.
